Sean “Diddy” Combs Sells Star Island Mansion for $55 Million

Embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, currently incarcerated in a federal facility, has quietly unloaded one of his two multi-million dollar estates on Miami Beach’s ultra-exclusive Star Island for $55 million in a private, off-market transaction.

According to Miami-Dade County public property deeds and mortgage records, the sale was finalized entirely off-market, bypassing public listing networks (MLS)—a standard protocol for real estate transactions of this magnitude.

Combs initially acquired the estate in July 2021 from international Latin music legends Gloria and Emilio Estefan for $35 million. Engineering a $20 million premium in exactly four years highlights the unprecedented scarcity of land and the resilient demand among the global elite for premium property inside Star Island’s guard gates.

The House That Couldn’t Buy Freedom

The waterfront estate previously became a major point of discussion in mainstream headlines during Combs’s federal legal battles. Following his September 2024 arrest in New York on federal charges, his legal team aggressively proposed a $50 million bail package. The crown jewel collateral proposed to secure his pre-trial release was this exact property at 1 Star Island Drive.

In an effort to satisfy the court, Combs had cleared a remaining $19 million mortgage on the property just weeks prior to his arrest, presenting it as a completely debt-free, unencumbered asset. However, federal judges consistently denied the bail proposal, citing flight risks and concerns over potential witness tampering, leaving Combs detained.

An Inside Look at 1 Star Island Drive

Originally constructed in 1940 and heavily expanded in the mid-1990s, the estate spans a sprawling 1.3-acre peninsula. Boasting an incredible 240 linear feet of direct, unobstructed Biscayne Bay frontage, the property delivers panoramic views of the Downtown Miami skyline. The compound includes a two-story main residence and a detached guest house totaling 6 bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms. Extravagant exterior amenities include a deep-water private dock, a resort-style swimming pool, an outdoor entertainment pavilion, and a full-sized commercial-grade basketball court.

Combs Retains His Footprint on the Island

While this sale signals a significant restructuring of his luxury real estate portfolio, Sean Combs hasn’t completely cut ties with the island. Property records verify that he still retains ownership of the adjacent estate at 2 Star Island Drive, which he bought back in 2003 for $14.5 million. Notably, the high-profile Homeland Security investigations raid that took place in March 2024 occurred at his primary 2 Star Island address, rather than the property that was just sold.

Star Island Market Defies Legal Drama

Top-tier luxury brokers in Miami note that the headline-grabbing legal troubles surrounding Combs have done nothing to suppress property values on the island. Star Island—home to hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, billionaire developer Vlad Doronin, and celebrities like Rick Ross—continues to act as an unassailable financial safe haven. The sheer exclusivity of a gated enclave with its own bridge and round-the-clock police presence keeps billionaire capital completely insulated from any localized controversy.
